ReelLists ("we," "our," or "us") operates the ReelLists mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our app.
Summary: We collect the information you provide (account details, reviews, watchlists) and some technical data (device info, IP address) to run the app. We share data only with essential service providers. We do not sell your personal information.
1. Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Account Information: Email address, name, username, date of birth, and optional profile photo and bio when you create an account.
- Content Preferences: Favorite genres, favorite movies/TV shows, and streaming service subscriptions you select during onboarding.
- Watch Activity: Movies and TV shows you add to your watchlist, mark as watched, rate, and review, including episode-level tracking for TV shows.
- Social Content: Custom lists you create, friend connections, recommendations and shares you send to other users, and activity feed interactions.
- Reports: Information you provide when reporting content or other users.
Information Collected Automatically
- Device Information: Device type and name for session management.
- IP Address: Collected for security purposes and session tracking.
- Push Notification Token: If you enable notifications, we store your device's push token to deliver notifications.
Information We Do Not Collect
- Precise location or GPS data
- Coarse location data
- Contact lists or address book
- Advertising identifiers (IDFA/GAID)
- Crash data or diagnostic logs
- Browsing history outside the app
- Analytics or behavioral tracking data
2. How We Use Your Information
- Provide and maintain the ReelLists app and its features
- Personalize your experience with streaming availability based on your subscriptions
- Enable social features like friend connections, sharing, and activity feeds
- Send push notifications you have opted into (friend requests, shares, new episodes)
- Send transactional emails (welcome, password reset, security alerts)
- Process subscription purchases and manage your Pro membership
- Enforce age restrictions and parental controls for users under 18
- Moderate content and respond to reports
- Protect against fraud and unauthorized access

4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on secure servers. We use industry-standard security measures including:
- Passwords hashed with bcrypt
- JWT-based authentication with expiring tokens
- Prepared SQL statements to prevent injection attacks
- HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
- Access tokens stored securely on-device using encrypted storage
5. Your Privacy Controls
Within the app, you can control:
- Activity Visibility: Choose who can see your activity — everyone, friends only, or nobody.
- Friend Requests: Control who can send you friend requests.
- Sharing: Control who can share content with you.
- Review Privacy: Mark individual reviews as private.
- Blocking: Block other users from interacting with you.
- Push Notifications: Enable or disable notifications at any time through your device settings.
6. Children's Privacy
ReelLists requires users to be at least 13 years old, in compliance with COPPA. Users under 18 are automatically placed in restricted mode with age-appropriate content filtering. Parents can link accounts and manage additional restrictions through parental controls.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account directly in the app under Settings → Delete Account, or by contacting us at support@reellists.app. Upon account deletion, your personal data will be removed, though some anonymized data may be retained for legitimate business purposes.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy in the app or via email. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
